How to play bitcoin bingo - The Bitcoin News

Bad Architecture, part 3, digging deeper...

Part 1 Part 2
I'm at $BigClient, which is taking a Citroen like approach to infrastructure and operations. "We recognize that the McPherson strut is simple, efficient, good enough for most use cases and accepted by everyone in the industry, but we shall do it with hydraulic fluid at high pressure. What could go wrong?"
Except $BigClient's far away from a competent Citroen shop. $BigClient's Citroen has gone through a few years of 'just keep it running on the cheap' upkeep without access to factory parts.
I've got an odd patching problem on a handful of servers. Systems are rolling back to insecure versions (2.0.2 ->1.4.6) and nobody knows why.
Or at least, nobody's talking.
I don't know what to do yet, so I decide to go and get lunch. I work out the possibilities.
  1. There's something wrong with our validation procedure- they're actually patched and we're reading the wrong thing.
  2. There's something or someone else downgrading these systems.
Number 1 requires more documentation, which $BC doesn't seem to want to show me. Number two might be hiding in logs, which are emailed to me on a regular basis.
I walk back to my cubicle, grab my laptop and a notebook and find a quiet corner to figure things out. I find one in a tiny conference room.
I read through my emails and search for any of the logs from the api servers.
I spend about ten minutes on Stack Exchange for the appropriate sed, awk, tee and cat munging to pare them down to what I want. Eventually I dump them all to Excel, because I am a bad person.
Some filtering and I can see what's going on. The system orchestration updates each server every other midnight. I see about three quarters of them download the 2.0.2 version as a part of the night's update.
Every two nights a (seemingly) random selection of servers updates. I scribble the order on the conference room whiteboard and stare at them for a few minutes.
Nothing in the orchestration system logs shows another process loading the older 1.4.6. version. But something is.
Nothing in the logs emailed to me obviously points to another process.
I take a walk to get a coffee and think. Nothing comes to me and I have to scour the kitchen for unflavored coffee. I walk back to my conference room to find an intern-like person.
me:"Hey, I apologize. I didn't know the room was reserved. I'll take my stuff."
Other person:"That's ok. Are you Rob?"
me:"Nope, sorry"
I take my stuff and make my way back to my cubicle.
A few minutes searching leads me to a shared root password for the servers stored in the password vault.
I login to one of the remaining servers running 2.0.2 and look at the running processes. Nothing obvious like "random updater".
I'm stumped.
I lean back and stare at nothing in particular trying to come up with some ideas.
Unfortunately, it's fairly packed and I'm next to a bullpen.
Voice 1:"So the Sky Caps put blotter in the vat without telling anyone"
Voice 2:"Hilton Honors kicks' Marriott Bonvoy's ass any day."
Voice 3:"No, I'll pick her up at 4"
The voices wash over me in some clip reel workplace sitcom haze. I'm not going to get anything done. I take a walk around the offices to get the lay of the land. It's a Hanna-Barbera cartoon of grey cubefarms, tan breakrooms, free coffee but no snacks. The only attempts at color are people's cubicles. Family pictures, shirtless men with fish, desk toys and action figures. It's like a mall- everything's pleasant, non threatening and in identically-sized stalls, with colorful (but bounded) individuality, all for commerce.
Then I find the Hot Topic meets Successories manifesting in a cubicle. There are two dorm-room sized posters of the gold Bitcoin-coin, along with framed inspirational quotes about success and perserverance set against pictures of Game Of Thrones characters and muscle-bound men in insignia-less camo. A new leather jacket with an embroidered skull is on the back of the chair. This person is either a hoot or insufferable.
I keep walking. I have a breakthrough.
Where are the API servers getting the older version to install? Maybe that'll lead me into the library. I'm not yet Adso, but perhaps I'm one of the other ,lesser scribes copying my book and scribbling fanciful drawings of the things I miss, like decent coffee and a cell-mate that doesn't snore.
I walk back to my cubicle. A different intern-shaped person is in the conference room, all alone.
I can't save them. Eventually they'll be standing in the corner of their cubicle looking away while the middle manager cleans out the rest of their team.
I'm in my seat. Some searching results in a few possible repositories. Some more searching finds me the one repo that still has v1.4.6 of this application.
Just to make sure, I compare a downloaded copy of v1.4.6 and the installed version of v 1.4.6 on one of the servers.
I search all the folders and files for the URL of the repo server and find it.
In the application itself. The server waits every two days and looks to the repo. If the installed version is not equal to v 1.4.6, it downloads v 1.4.6 from the server and installs it, then forces a restart.
This code is commented out (made non-executable) along with an actual comment:
/REMOVE BEFORE PRODUCTION
I quickly scan through the API servers to find one of the ones still running 2.0.2. I search for the term "REMOVE BEFORE PRODUCTION"
And there it is, in the application code.
Except it's not commented out.
In a text editor, I write up my findings, conclusion and a recommended fix- delete the upgrade code snippet, increment to 2.0.3, push it out using the orchestration tool and call it a day.
LC Chat won't let me attach my text file, so I breathlessly LC Chat my document, line by line at Vincent, the poor bastard tasked with closing audit finding 162, the mystery of the random rollback.
Vincent:...
Clearly, Vincent is choosing his congratulatory language carefully.
Vincent:"Can't apply the fix. The application is owned by Development. They're behind on other things, so they won't update the software until next quarter."
me:"It's about thirty lines of code we can comment out"
Vincent:"Can we say it's fixed for the audit since we know what the problem is?"
me:"No. We can patch it, or we could write up a remediation plan and get it on some schedule."
me:"But that's more paperwork than the actual fix."
Vincent:"But Ops isn't on good terms with Development."
me:"So they're not going to touch it any time soon."
Vincent:"Probably not"
me:You guys own that repo server, too"
Vincent:"I don't see how that's good for anything"
me:"We cut out the update code in 2.0.2 and call it 2.0.3. We name the file 1.4.6 and replace the existing 1.4.6 on the repo server. Either the app gets updated via your orchestration server or it updates itself. We're fixed in two days either way.
Vincent:"But policy requires that we get approval"
me:"There's an exception, if you have a superior in Operations to sign off, you can call it an emergency fix. Ask Trevor. He just needs to not tell anyone else. You submit the ticket and eventually the devs will get to it and fix the problem for good. Until then, you pass that part of the audit."
Vincent tells me he's going to talk to Trevor. I'm going to take a walk. Out of curiosity, I go back to the Hot Topic cubicle to get a look at its occupant.
The jacket is gone and the monitors are off. Mystery person has left for the day, I assume. I look at the large jars of nutritional supplements with macho names- Gorilla Rage, LumberJacked, Psycho Focus".
I notice the name-plate on the outside of the cubicle.
Oh, no.
Ian.

DeFi is Cooling down, BW.io will launch hottest NFT Zone!

DeFi is Cooling down, BW.io will launch hottest NFT Zone!
With the left foot stepping on the right foot, the left hand plucking hair, while claiming “to the moon”, DeFi is cooling down?
“The first cup of milk tea in autumn” is for DeFi fans. Once a token was launched, the price plummeted. The financial events of the previous period gave people false hope that there would be another wave of bull market. On the contrary, joy becomes sorrow.
Many people ask, is there still going to be bull market?
But the token circle is never silent, because the market capital flow is too much!
With the DeFi heat dissipation, NFT quietly becomes the next hottest topic.
In my opinion, DeFi is not the only area that can generate huge returns, and NFT is likely to be the next big event in the blockchain world.
What is NFT?
The full name of NFT is non fungible token, which is usually translated into non-homogenous token. It first appeared in 2017 and is mainly used in games, artworks, domain names, collectibles and other fields.
Let’s take a more popular example.
Have you ever been caught playing video games and beaten by your parents when you were a child?
Are you skillful and powerful in the games and get cool equipment?
Have you ever seen collections in art galleries and museums, which amazed you but daunted you with their prices?
Let me tell you, these are not problems now. Thanks to the blockchain, you can do whatever you want in the NFT world.
When you look at the skyrocketing prize money of S10 champion, and you can only squander money in games under the coercion of Tencent, you can’t help but sigh at the desolation of life. Meanwhile, your girlfriend is scolding you for playing games and losing your ambition.
And the advent of the NFT era, you will be reborn! Friend, are you tired of the endless payment after the first charge of 6 yuan? Friend, are you a king in the game, but a loser in your life? Friend, are you afraid to see your admirer in the game because you have no money in real life? Don’t worry, don’t hesitate, NFT era is coming, with lowest price, and just logging in BW.io (coin net) NFT zone can change your destiny. From now on, you can stand on the frontier of the era. You can make a lot of money and be incredibly rich. You can live for another 500 years and will still be elegant, handsome and rich!

NFT is It is a kind of token which uses ERC-721 and ERC-1155 standards. Its biggest feature is that it has unique scarcity and can not be separated. At present, the existing landing scenes include artworks, collectibles, game props, bills and vouchers.
What is a NFT? First of all, we need to understand homogeneous token, which means the same kind of token that can be exchanged with each other.
For example, I have $100 BWB, which can be exchanged with $100 BWB in your hand. In essence, the token value of both parties is the same, and there is no difference. The only thing that changes is the transaction records on the chain.
NFT refers to the unique and irreplaceable digital assets, that is, each NFT is unique and provides different uses and values.
Further explanation, NFT can be a pair of silk stockings, a SSR card of Yinyangshi game, and a peripheral garage kit that others don’t care about, but you love very much.
Some old players in the circle must have heard of the encrypted cat on ETH, which is the earliest NFT token.
In a word, NFT can represent any asset, especially the extremely scarce one. In terms of “gold in chaotic times, antiques in prosperous times”, many people consider bitcoin as digital gold, and NFT can be understood as digital antique (digital collection).

https://preview.redd.it/pjo810afrft51.jpg?width=786&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bad381457ae7bd83d4c2d94a4cb5550414f90dc7
After two years of development, NFT token and various ecological applications based on NFT token have gradually begun to mature.
With the crazy rise of MEME, many people have doubts, will NFT be the next opportunity after the fever of DeFi?
Generally speaking, NFT infrastructure is still under construction, and there is no complete functional protocol stack and application platform. The speculative demand is also lack of value target, and the current user group and demand are still too small.
However, if you want to make a fortune in the token circle, you have to go ahead. When everyone sniffs a chance of gaining ten times or even a hundred times’ profit, there will be little chance.
BW.io (coin net) now brings you a chance to get rich first. You can see that the NFT zone has been launched on the homepage of its official website. You can also participate in the activities and have the opportunity to split up 10000 USDT!

https://preview.redd.it/u92qhafts6u51.png?width=1190&format=png&auto=webp&s=889fcf85973bc1502d7c133171f3d20639baad26
What is the future of NFT? Is it possible to unleash the energy of DeFi in this summer? There is no need to over-interpret this issue. What you and I can and should do is to pay attention to BW’s NFT zone as soon as possible. Every new token may be a good opportunity to make money.
Looking forward to the future, in addition to games, artworks, land, tickets and artworks, I expect that there will be more and more different NFT categories, and there will be a significant increase in market activities. A year later, we’ll look back and see what dramatic changes have taken place in the NFT ecosystem.Telegram: t.me/BW_support

Hotline Casino Banking and Cashouts

Our Hotline Casino review revealed a number of different payment methods available. Choose from classic Visa options to more techy mediums like Beeline and bitcoin. Whatever your preference, you’re guaranteed to find a payment method you’re comfortable with and which is also available in your country. Our team also found that the Hotline Casino payments page goes into great detail when it comes to payment provider fees, and minimum/maximum deposit/withdrawal amounts
It can take anywhere between a few minutes to 24 hours to receive your payout, according to our Hotline Casino online casino review research team. However, if you choose to withdraw your funds during the weekend, this may take a little longer. In order to reduce the overall waiting time, we recommend verifying your identity in advance.
Identity verification is a relatively simple process and is important to comply with regulations coming from the Government of Curacao and also those of anti-money laundering. All you need to do is submit the relative documents to the Hotline Casino support team. This can take up to a few days, but once this is done, you can withdraw your funds quickly and without any problems. Our Hotline Casino review team thinks it’s great that the site uses the latest encryption to ensure the secure processing of your data as it means Hotline Casino is a reliable place to play at.

Hotline Casino Support

While conducting our review of Hotline Casino, our team checked out the support options on the site. We were quite pleased with what we saw, with email and live chat customer support options. Live chat agents work around the clock to ensure maximum customer satisfaction.
While logged out, you can contact support through an email address found in the footer of the page. The Hotline Casino agents work hard to get back to you as soon as possible – they don’t like keeping people waiting.
This is also seen in the live chat option. Available 24/7 and only if you are logged in, the customer support team goes the extra mile for its registered customers. Our Hotline Casino online casino review team tried this out and were impressed to see that an agent got back to us within seconds. The chat head follows your navigation and is located in the bottom right corner of your screen for easy access but without blocking your gameplay.
The thing we liked most about the chat is that you can email yourself the chat transcript. This means you do not need to take notes as you will have a permanent record of your answers. Our Hotline Casino review team give the customer support team a massive thumbs up for their customer-first approach!

Online gambling legislation and regulation. Starting your own gambling product.

Online gambling legislation and regulation. Starting your own gambling product.

Mobile gambling
If you plan to develop an app with the ability to deposit and withdraw real money, then such a product automatically falls into the category of gambling and you will need to license your business for successful operation.
Mobile and Web Based Apps
So let’s talk about the different kinds of online gambling apps available on web and mobile. We’ll be covering both free-play gaming apps and real money casino app games you can find for iOS, Android devices and web browsers.
Mobile gambling is more common for poker, casino, bingo, and skill games. They have advantages in terms of a low barrier to enter the market, instant liquidity, product knowledge, and marketing expertise, minimal infrastructure costs, and the ability to bring a brand to the market quickly. Consequently, this form of gambling does not sit neatly with jurisdictional boundaries. Multiple gambling opportunities are available, including betting on various events and markets, in a relatively simple format. Gambling products can also be integrated into betting on television shows or virtual racing and sports games as well as offering lotteries, bingo, poker and casino games.
Most Popular Gambling Apps
Sports betting, casino, poker and lotteries are the most popular forms of online gambling. However, other forms are available too. These include the following: Bingo, slot machines, different card games, roulette and other game of chance. One of the best things about online gambling and betting apps is the number of choices you have.

Sports Betting

Betting means making or accepting a bet on the outcome of a race, competition, or other event or process, the likelihood of anything occurring or not occurring, or whether anything is or is not true. Today most sports betting is done via mobile-friendly sites and apps.
Today most sports betting is done via mobile-friendly sites and apps.
The introduction of live betting for sports like soccer and tennis means that bettors who are sitting inside stadiums watching games can now pick up their mobile devices and find real-time betting value with the best sports gambling apps. This has really unlocked a door to the future of sports gambling and the popularity of online gambling apps.

Poker

Many sites offer free poker, where no real money is wagered, although in some cases players can accumulate credits that can be exchanged for prizes. This is the case why people are going to play for real money. There is an ongoing debate over whether poker should be classified as a game of chance or skill. The parameters of legal poker playing are still unclear and differ between jurisdictions. Since you are not gambling with money, I’m pretty sure under the law it’s just a video game for now.

Blackjack

Blackjack is the game of choice to many high-rollers and do you know why? Because blackjack is a challenging, logic and skill-based game where your thinking, strategy, and calculations determine the outcome of the game.

Bingo

Bingo is one of the most popular and socially accepted games in the world. Bingo is a traditional form of gambling that has seen considerable innovation in recent years. It is also the only form of gambling recognized in the Gambling Act that does not have a specific statutory definition, the Act providing simply that “bingo” means “any version of that game, irrespective of by what name it is described”. Bingo must be played as an equal chance game. For game to be classed as “bingo” it must meet the Act’s definition of “equal chance gaming” (as opposed to casino gaming). Thus, it: must not involve playing or staking against a bank, and must be a game in which the chances are equally favorable to all participants in the sense that each ticket or chance has the same probability of success as any other.
Licensed bingo is a well-regulated and socially responsible form of gambling that takes place in a safe environment. Many sites offer multiple forms of bingo with different features, types of games, and costs of play. These sites often cater specifically for women and some research suggests that they may appeal to markets who would not typically engage in traditional forms of gambling.

Slots

Slot machine is one of the most beloved game among the gambling community and it has been a part of the industry for a long time. They provide fun and entertainment and their simplicity allows gamers to start playing at once. This can play out in different ways depending on the machine you’re playing. For instance, there’s Pick a Fortune, a five-reel, 20 line game that puts players right in the studio of a television game show, including the potential to play a Deal or No Deal-style bonus round. A super trend over the past few years is mobile-friendly slot games. These apps and websites were developed to enable players to enjoy their favorite games on their smartphones at any time. Another dominant slot trend is licensed branded slots that are based on popular movies, television, and musicians.
Virtual Money vs Real Money
Let’s find out the difference between social gambling and real money gambling, as well as the differences between gambling through apps and gambling through a web browser. It can be quite confusing trawling through all the casinos, slots, and lotteries available, both through your mobile web browser as well as through mobile app stores, in the form of downloadable apps.

Virtual money

The main difference between virtual money and real money gambling is that the in-game virtual currency in social games and gambling-type games is used only like credits that are not paid out as winnings or anything given to player in cash, making these games exempt from gambling regulations.
Virtual money is loaded on user game accounts via in-app purchases in mobile applications or the game balance funding from a card via web based applications.

Real money gambling

Real money gambling via your mobile device is only allowed in countries where laws have been passed that allow for this type of gambling online, or there are no laws in place that prevent it. The payment systems are the legal way of services payment in the gambling app, performing as the intermediary between the gambling facility and the client. With their help, users replenish deposits and withdraw funds to personal accounts in financial institutions. If the application uses the payment system of a well-known brand, that gives players additional confidence in the resource. Nowadays, there is a wide range of payment systems, some of which operate all over the world, other systems are oriented towards the citizens of one or several countries. A number of services accept money of different world currencies, while others allow currency transactions of one state only.
What is an Online Gambling Licensing
The internet has a global audience, there’s no single piece of legislation that covers the legality of online gambling for the entire world. Mobile gambling doesn’t typically accept customers from every single country in the world. It often focuses on certain specific regions.
Instead, most countries have their own local laws that deal with the relevant legal and regulatory issues.
Ultimately, questions of legality all go back to the location of the casino or where the website operates out of. In closed regulatory systems, such as Italy, France, and the Netherlands, licenses, and advertising rights are limited to domestic providers, which must be located within their country’s geographical boundaries and these are only permitted to offer some types of products. Some jurisdictions, for example, Norway, Sweden, and Canada legalize and regulate online gambling, but this is limited to a single site that is owned by the government. Under such an approach, the government becomes the operator and regulator and all revenues are returned to the government.
Remote gambling is generally permitted. That means that an operator that is licensed may provide gambling services to citizens in the country via all forms of remote communication (and using equipment that may be located in the country or abroad). Equally, a remote operator may be licensed to offer gambling services to citizens in any jurisdiction in the world using equipment located in the country. The law provides that, for each type of gambling (betting, gaming, and participating in a lottery), there will be two forms of license available: remote and non-remote forms (land-based). If you provide facilities for remote gambling, online or through other means, and advertise to consumers you will need a license from the licensing jurisdictions or local licensing authorities. Before an online gambling site signs up its first customer, before it accepts its first bet before the first card is dealt, it must be licensed by a recognized governmental entity.
Certain regions in the world have specific legislation in place that allows them to license and regulate companies that operate online gambling sites or provide industry services (such as the supply of gaming software). These regions are referred to as online gambling jurisdictions or licensing jurisdictions.
Depending on what type of entertainment you are going to implement in your internet establishment, you will have to apply for the corresponding permissions. Online gambling laws in Europe vary from one country to the next. The industry is well regulated in some countries and less so in others. There are several online gambling jurisdictions located in Europe. Some of these are members of the European Union (EU), and thus subject to the various rules and regulations of that body, while others are independent. Each of these jurisdictions has an authority that’s responsible for approving gambling sites for licenses that enable them to offer their services legally. They also regulate their licensees.
Countries that Provide Gambling Licensing
Today there are lots of licensing jurisdictions located all over the world and offering different terms for their customers. Depending on the country, licenses can be local, international (distributed in several countries), have a different set of documents for registration, costs of registration and further support, various operating conditions and other special details.

Which gambling license is both internationally recognized?

The government of Ireland offers casino operators, software, and service providers in the gambling industry, with a gambling license that allows gambling operators to conduct business related to casino, lotto, and other gaming-related activities. Ireland Gambling License is one of the most popular license for online casinos worldwide. Ireland has long been recognized as one of the preferred locations for Online Gambling operators to base their operations. This success has been due to a combination of factors, such as a progressive legislative system, political stability, first-rate telecommunications facilities, and a well established financial services industry. A wide range of gambling sites operates out of Ireland including sports betting, casino sites, poker, bingo, and more.
In stark contrast, the UK is the largest regulated market for online gambling in the world, and corporations are already comfortable exploiting the intersections of gambling and gaming, betting in-play, social gaming, Bitcoin, financial trading and spread betting, betting exchanges, e-sports and, most profitably, mobile gambling. 40% and 60% of online gambling in the UK took place in Gibraltar.

International licensing

Europe is home to the following online gambling jurisdictions: Alderney, Gibraltar, Isle of Man, Malta. Malta is currently the country that is most accommodating to gambling companies, and the license offers whitelisted online gambling in sports and casino games in many European territories. But takes an extreme amount of time in paperwork and background checks. Also, you pay 5% of all your gross profit to the EU.
Among countries offering gambling licensing services, the attention should be paid to Curaçao jurisdiction, which is considered to be one of the most promising for the online gaming business.
Curaçao Internet Gaming Association (also known as Curaçao eGaming) is both a regulator and a licensor, and its licensing works worldwide except Curaçao itself, USA, France and Netherlands. Using Curacao as an example, let us examine in detail the process of obtaining a license, the necessary documents and expenses.
How to get a License on Curaçao
  • Documents necessary for company registration:
  • criminal record;
  • passport scans;
  • bank account confirmation;
  • documents proving payments for utility services.
After the company is registered, an operator can apply for the license providing the following documents:
  • a document certifying the right of domain possession;
  • description of games planned to be used in the project;
  • a list indicating countries of potential operation;
  • illustration of server locations to be used in the project;
  • a copy of the agreement with a software provider.
Gambling license cost:
  • Bank account opening $1000
  • Company registration $3600
  • Company management per year $3600
  • Application processing fee $1000
  • License fee per year $4800
  • Equipment/software fee starting from $1500
  • Server maintenance per year $6000
Apart from that pay for technical support and maintenance every year. The entire license issuing process takes between 2-4 weeks. Curacao Internet Gaming Association (CIGA) also has the power to review a license and, if it finds that an operator has breached a license condition, has the power to impose a range of sanctions including revocation of the license.
Apple and Google Gambling Rules
You’ll be surprised at the limited number of real money gambling app options available on the AppStore and Google Play Store. Most real money casino gaming is done through gambler’s mobile web browsers and not through mobile gambling apps that you’ll find for iPhone and Android phones. Apple allows online gambling applications in a few forms, and not just in places where it is explicitly permitted. They do not allow any payments through the applications – those have to be done on the websites. Apple has far stricter developer guidelines for iOS apps than Google does for Android apps, so it’s fine to assume that whatever you choose to download from iTunes is usually safe, secure, and meets a certain standard.
Any real money casino in the iTunes app is required to have proper licensing and permissions before Apple will approve the app for use or downloads. While Google Play is technically regulated, it is much more loose in what can be hosted.

Apple Store

Gambling, gaming, and lotteries can be tricky to manage and tend to be one of the most-regulated offerings on the App Store. Apple has rules for apps that support real money wagering, including sports betting and poker. Those apps and lotteries must have necessary licensing and permissions in the locations where the App is used, must be geo-restricted to those locations, and must be free on the App Store, and Apple rate even simulated gambling apps as appropriate only for users 17-years-old and up.

Play Store

Google keeps the reigns tight. To be able to successfully upload apps to the Google Play store, developers need to have a valid license for the specific countries they are targeting and comply with their regulations. The app must be free to download and must prevent under-age users from gambling in the app. As a final precaution, all gambling apps are required to display prominent information regarding responsible gambling practices. This brings its policy in line with the Apple App Store.
Countries where gambling is illegal
It is also important to remember that while gambling is growing rapidly in many places, in others it is totally or partially prohibited. As well as in the majority of the US, sports betting is illegal in India, Pakistan, and China, three of the largest gambling markets in the world. Most countries have rules against gambling. Almost all Islamic countries prohibit gambling of every kind, but many turn a blind eye to online gambling or simply do not have regulations in place for this grey area.
In the United Arab Emirates, however, any kind of gambling is prosecuted. National lotteries are the only legal forms of wagering on the Asian country’s mainland. Cambodia, North Korea strictly forbids online and offline gambling amongst its own citizens but allows tourists to participate in these activities.
Qatar is the strictest country of all when it comes to gambling laws. All forms of gambling activities are considered illegal, and even sports betting is not permissible.
Starting your own gambling product
Numerous online casino platforms in the market offer fantastic casino games like bingo, poker, roulette, and many more.
If you have an idea, but don’t know where to start, we advise you begin with a Minimal Viable Product (MVP) to pilot your proof of concept for investors. MVP spotlights your core features and lets your investors know there are bigger and better things to come.
For MVP you do not need a large team, just a few people are enough to create a fully functioning prototype. In the case of successful numbers of your prototype, the further development of a full-fledged product will require more team, resources and time, however you will be sure that your development and your costs will pay off.

Helpful Skill that seems overlooked by many content/guide creators

PMC Timing windows at high traffic areas:
To preface, I'm primarily a customs player (That's all I really had back in the day when I first got the game, just came back after a long break). I will be mostly focusing on this map for examples, but the skills can be applied to other maps to relative success. This seems to be more applicable to Customs over because of it's linear nature. Also, I'm not talking about rushing over to another PMC spawn location and trying to get a cheeky kill.
First off, this is an idea to play with once you already have a solid understanding of the map layout/extracts/loot/hot spots/etc.
Customs is a very linear map, at first glance it looks pretty open but there's a massive choke point at the train bridge near gas station (and the railroad north) that every player is required to cross if they want to use their guaranteed exfil location (ZB1011 or Customs area depending on spawn). This narrows down the number of routes that players will realistically take on their runs and leads to some pretty consistent player behavior. Basically everyone that spawns on the east is trying to get over to Customs/trailer park eventually, while PMCs that spawned in the west are trying to get to ZB-1011. Getting a feel of these patterns can make you better at whatever you're objective is for that run (avoiding fights or finding them). This isn't running away or towards gunfire, this is predicting where and when that gunfire is going to be before it happens.
This helps you make decisions about your movement to exploit these patterns, and make you more efficient in your navigation. It informs your risk matrix and lets you make more aggressive moves around the map instead of crab walking around looting duffle bags and listening for footsteps. It can turn rats into hyenas, and chads into wrecking balls.
Early Game (35 min-25ish min remaining): Know your spawns, know where the most likely PMC spawns near you, engage or avoid based on preference. Dorms/Big Red / the cross between shipping yard and ZB-1011 area will be hot zones skirmishes breaking out. (Sub-Station can also be contentious at this point if the PMC that has the best dorms spawn chooses not to go there). If you're goal is to avoid early fights, you can rush to RUAF roadblock from the west spawns to farm the group of scavs and sniper. the east can stay in the warehouses or try to make an riskier play to military checkpoint.
I tend to play the early game very passively. 35 minutes is a long time and I don't need to open 30 boxes if I can just shoot one guy instead. I'll grab hidden stashes as I slowly clear a zone, maybe kill a few scavs without making too much commotion, and listen for PMCs moving in my area for opportunistic early kills.
Mid Game (25-17ish minutes remaining): Remaining PMCs will most likely be near the middle of the map if they did not rush for an early exfil. Gas Station, Train bridge, and the woods east of dorms become high traffic areas. A great time to pick off geared players leaving dorms. Factory Shacks and construction can also be busy. A wave of player Scavs will enter the game around this time (some spawn much earlier but the majority of my scav runs drop me in during this window). They have their own tendencies but I'm not going to cover that here, just be aware that there will be some x-factors floating around in random locations. If you're ratting it up, you can look to clean up missed loot in the big red area or the far east warehouse with the weapon crates and key spawn with lower risk. Scav Checkpoint tends to be safer at this time to grab weapon parts and consumables.
This can either be the most boring part of your run or the most hectic. I feel pretty safe sprinting from the spawn areas to intermediate areas before the choke point. Sure you'll sometimes get bushwanked by someone who's slow playing, but we're working with probabilities and risk tolerance here. I look for long sightlines and vantage points into the middle of the map, this will be you best opportunity to engage geared PMCs leaving dorms (besides rushing into dorms of the break which is very high variance for an average player). Or if you're just ratting it up this will be your time to farm scavs in the spawn areas and clean up extra loot left behind.
Late Game (17-10ish minutes remaining): Two Words: Rat. Heaven. If you arrive at dorms with 15 minutes remaining, the probability of walking in to an empty building full of rasha and his guard's corpses all half looted is hilariously high. You're not going to be grabbing any Beta 2s or bitcoins, but there is almost always abandoned AVS rigs, AK variants (attachments and all), Helmets (class 3/4), Commtacs, nades, magazines, ammo, meds, etc. The number of times I've walked out with 600k-1mil uncontested is shockingly high, especially given Custom's reputation of being a map with B or even C tier loot. If you bring Keys in, the chances of most if not all of the locked dorms aside from marked room seems to be about 70-80%. Even when arriving this late. Chads are mostly exfiled at this point, fights will be scattered and unpredictable but you'll still find people cleaning up bodies at gas station pretty often.
I always go dorms in this timing window. An overwhelming majority of the time, I'm dealing with a couple AI or a player scav if not just walking into an empty building. If rashala was killed by the marked room rushers, you basically just punched your ticket. tetris it up and try to maximize profit per slot, listen for other rats looking for scraps. plan to leave when you've cleaned the place or there's about 10 minutes left giving you time to check gas station for late players or more loot. If the game flow doesn't allow you to get there, you can find kills near the extracts or on the map border while people try to scurry out
Super Late game (Less than 10 min remaining): This is the part of the game that can take your good run to an amazing one, it can also be heartbreak o'clock. Most of the map will be picked through, but if you haven't made it to dorms and you have an exfil close to it it's worth checking.
The bread and butter of the super late game is trying to pick off the rats that are doing a lot of what I described above. Make-shit bridge and the pipe running from Gas station to Military checkpoint are great spots to ruin someone's raid and grab their perfectly organized bags of goodies. To a lesser extent, Land bridge south can have opportunities as well.
I've ended putting in more of a step by step on how I like to play customs than intended, but the real point is to use player tendencies at certain timing windows to make decisions that fit your game plan. I know that fast players are often going to be leaving gas station heading west around 20-25 minutes remaining. I know I can happily sprint over to dorms at 12 min remaining and more often then not, my noise won't be exploited. This 'reckless' movement gives me more time to hit gas station after while still having time to exfil. At sub 8 minutes or so you're most likely dealing with at most 2-3 player scavs or PMCs in your half of the map and you can make moves much more aggressively and loot more greedily. Craft your strategy around these timings to make your runs more efficient, safer, or more action packed.
TL;DR - Learn how players tend to move around the map along with the timing of WHEN they will most likely be in certain places to make better decisions. Memorize the timings to make your scav runs faster and your PMC runs more efficient.

In 2012 I Met a Possessed Couch

I’ve been losing sleep. I don’t think I’m particularly special in that regard, I think everyone has been losing sleep these days. A global pandemic tends to do that to people. Yet the thing that has been keeping me awake isn’t the virus. I’ve been losing sleep over an old couch I once crossed paths with.
It’s been eight years, I want to believe that I’ve put the past behind me, but being locked in a house for a couple of weeks has made it impossible to not dwell on the past. The memory of the couch started off as a fleeting thought over my morning coffee, but as days have turned into weeks that memory has grown into a distinct vision of madness. What I saw during those three drunken nights in December of 2012 has become an unavoidable part of reality. I can’t rest until I process it.
So since we have a nice little Internet campfire going here I figured I would tell you guys a story. Hopefully it will let me put this whole part of my past to rest and maybe it will take your mind off of what is happening outside. So kick back and let me tell you a tale of love and loss, of broken teenage hearts, of surviving in a crumbling world. Let me tell you a story about the couch that tried to seduce me.

I was nineteen, hung-over and heartbroken. I was also stuck in a foreign country. Well, to call Estonia a foreign country would be a bit of a long shot, I had lived there for a good five years of my life. It was in Estonia that I lived out most of my teenage years. This was where I had smoked my first cigarette, had my first drink, fell in love for the first time. I was dragged in when I was thirteen by my parents; they had business in Tallinn and wherever they went I went. At eighteen, when my parent’s contracts ran out, I was forced back home. Their business with Estonia was done. Mine was not. By nineteen I was back.
As soon as I got off the plane I turned my phone on and checked my messages. She didn’t write to me. My soul, positioned somewhere slightly above my abdomen, twitched in discomfort. It was a familiar twitch, I had felt it in the bus to the airport, I had felt it in the security check, I had felt it when I boarded the flight to Tallinn and as soon as I got off the plane the twitch was back with a vengeance. The discomfort I was feeling in my chest was a realization. It was the realization that I had emptied out most of my already slim bank account on a one-way ticket halfway across the continent to see my old high-school sweetheart who wasn’t interested in seeing me. It was the realization that as much as I consciously knew the trip was a bad idea, I couldn’t resist going. I dragged my feet towards the arrivals hall.
When it became obvious that Saale was dodging my messages I panicked. There was no place for me to crash, I had no money for a flight, hell, I had no money for food. As I boarded the plane to Estonia I sent off a panicked text message to my old band-mate: ‘Made horrible mistake. Landing in Tallinn in three hours. Can I crash at yours?’ Within two minutes there was a reply: ‘OK. Will come with Maarja. See you soon.’ Karl wasn’t very chatty, but he was always there when needed.
The two of them were waiting for me as soon as I walked out into the arrival hall. They barely changed. Karl was still a giant of man. His long hair had gotten longer and the beard he had rocked since seventeen had gotten thicker, the guy looked like Jesus on steroids if Jesus was really into heavy metal and wore glasses. Next to Karl stood Maarja, she wore a garish yellow coat. The pink streak in her hair she’d been so proud of back in middle school was pinker than ever.
“JAAMEEES! YOU’RE BACK!” Maarja yelled in her high-pitched faux-English accent before nearly tackling me to the ground. “It’s been too long honey! Too long!” She hadn’t changed a bit since I left the country. Maarja was still a pint-sized bolt of energy. The two of them made for an odd couple.
“Welcome back, Friend,” Karl said after Maarja was done squeezing me. He wasn’t one for physical contact, Karl settled on a simple pat on the shoulder that challenged my entire skeletal structure. The three of us made our way outside to catch a bus to the center. Even after living in Estonia for five years I still wasn’t used to the winters. As soon as we walked out into the sub-zero temperature I felt decidedly like a foreigner.
We caught up on the small things while we waited for the bus. Karl and Maarja had officially moved in together, the band that Karl and me started up in high-school had broken up, Maarja was in the process of getting a bachelors degree of psychology and Karl was really into some crypto-currency stuff that went completely over my head. I couldn’t get much out of me; the cold was taking a real toll on my system. Whenever I opened my mouth to talk about my miserable little life I simply ended up chattering my teeth. As soon as we got on the bus I threw myself at the nearest heating vent.
“So, James,” Maarja said as soon as we got on the bus, “You still talk to Saale?” When I turned away from the heater to face her she froze, “I mean, we don’t have to talk about, forget I asked.”
“Do I look that bad?”
While Maarja searched for a diplomatic answer Karl stepped in with his special brand of honesty, “You look very tired and unhappy.”
“Well, I am happy to see you guys and I am excited to be here, but, yeah,” I decided to get the conversation out of the way, “We tried two months of long-distance, but Skype only gets you so far. Broke up in late July. After we split we agreed to not talk for a couple of months, to give each other some time to clear the system and all that. Keeping radio silence was hard at first but after a couple of weeks I started to get used to it. I was learning to live without her. Things were starting to straighten up, I even took a stab at dating but when the holidays rolled around the loneliness came back. On Christmas I figured I’d throw Saale a holiday message. She wrote back. We started chatting on a daily basis.”
The bus bounced through my old neighborhood. Memories of my drunken youth jumped at me from every corner, most of those memories involved Saale. “Last night we got pretty drunk,” I continued, “Things got flirty. We started talking about what we would do if we weren’t half a continent away from each other. She mentioned her parents were out of town until the end of January on some sort of an anniversary trip. I offered to fly in. She told me I should. Now I’m here.”
“She changed her mind?” Karl asked.
“She didn’t think I was serious about flying over. Didn’t exactly check with her before I bought the ticket. She flipped out when I got it, told me to get a refund and then hung up on me when I insisted on meeting up. She hasn’t answered any of my messages since.” A part of me felt good to get the story out of my system but saying it out loud just added to the absurdity. I could have not bought the ticket, I could have gotten a refund, I could have not gotten on that plane. Everything could have been avoided, but nineteen year old me leaped at the opportunity for a grand romantic gesture like a hungry animal.
“Very strange,” Karl finally said after considering my story. He shot a look over to Maarja, as if she was the ambassador to all women-kind, “Very strange, right?”
Maarja shrugged.
Maarja’s house was the crown jewel of my high-school social life. It was a three-apartment unit that was built at some point before the world wars. This place was old, as you would walk around the little apartment it would creak, but it made for a perfect party place. Maarja had inherited the apartment from her grandma at sixteen; the Estonians saw child rearing as a fairly independent process. If she couldn’t survive on her own at sixteen she probably couldn’t make it at thirty, a bit of responsibility would prepare her for the frigid world outside. Maarja used her newly found independence to throw the biggest house parties that the neighborhood had ever seen.
Maarja’s place was perfect for booze filled gatherings. It was spacious enough to hold any drinking game we could dream up, there was a nice terrace for smoking and the neighbors were either deaf, completely apathetic about teenage drinking or both. As soon as the front door opened I was assaulted by memories.
Visions of drunken nights on the floor of the living room, of hung-over mornings of the kitchen; the old apartment breathed with the past. For a split second a wave of gratitude for a youth well spent washed over me, but then I remembered that each of those fond memories had an element I wanted to block out. Most of the fun I had in the apartment had been with Saale by my side.
Maarja and Karl still slept on an old mattress on the floor, the walls were still covered with cut outs of boy-bands that Maarja had stuck to the wall in her tweens. The only thing that changed about their bedroom was the addition of a massive computer rig on the table. There were strange ventilators and cooling tubes and blinking lights, the machine looked like something straight out of a sci-fi flick.
“That’s my mining rig,” Karl said proudly. I nodded as if I understood what he was talking about.
“Where are the rats?” I asked, noticing the empty cage on Maarja’s wardrobe. Back in the day Maarja had two rats, Fritz and The Duchess. She would keep them in the cage most of the time, but whenever the night reached a certain point of drunkenness Maarja would sneak over to her bedroom and come out with the two animals. If you saw Maarja with two rats running up and down her body you knew the night was really going to become a rager.
“The Duchess died last week,” Maarja said with a glint of sorrow, “Fritz wasn’t taking it well. Think the little guy was depressed being in the cage all alone, so I’m letting him roam around the house for the time being. Hopefully a bit of freedom will cheer him up.” As if he had heard his name, Fritz peeked out from behind the wardrobe. The albino rat raised his snout in the air, sniffed for a bit and then lumbered off to the living room. The years had taken their toll on Fritz, he no longer moved with the youthful energy I was used to, but the one part of him that I remembered had not changed. Fritz still had balls that were disproportionately giant to his body. As he moved away from us he dragged them behind him with Sisyphean effort.
“So, which hostel are you crashing at?” Maarja asked. A lump manifested in my throat. I looked around the cramped apartment. Outside of the mattress there was nowhere for me to sleep. I didn’t have any money for a hostel. “Ah, I’m just kidding. You’re crashing here. We owe you anyway,” Maarja said with good cheer.
“For what?” I asked, relieved that I wasn’t homeless.
“Financing the booze and cigarettes back in the day, might have ended up a nun if it weren’t for you,” she said with a grin. It was true, throughout high school I had been the main financier of our misadventures, my parents had foreign money and that money went pretty far by Estonian standards. More importantly though; when everyone was sixteen I looked twelve. According to the law of teen streets, the late bloomer provides the dough for those who can buy stuff without ID.
“You’ll sleep on the couch, we just haven’t had the time to get it out of the garage. How about you and Karl drag it in while I make some tea?”
Even though it was a bright winter day outside the garage was in near darkness. The only thing that illuminated the cramped musty room was a single ray of light shining in through a cracked skylight. The garage was covered in flimsy shelves that buckled beneath the weight of greasy machine parts. In the center of the garage lay a couch shaped object covered with a large, stained cloth. Karl grabbed ahold the cloth and was about to pull it away, but a thought struck him.
“James, if I tell you something will you not tell Maarja?” He asked, letting the cloth drop back down to the floor. He looked straight at me; his small eyes were probing me for trustworthiness.
“Well, depends on what it is,” I said, “Don’t need help burying a body, right?”
“No,” Karl’s intensity broke into a smile, “It is nothing illegal. Just a secret.” He strode towards one of the rickety shelves and plunged his hand deep into its depths. After a moment of rustling he pulled out a small box. He opened it. Even though the garage was dark, and even though the diamond was tiny, you could see a little glimmer. Karl’s eyes shone twice as bright.
“Wow man,” I said, realizing how quickly the world was moving on, “Congratulations!” Maarja and Karl would get married and I would be at their wedding alone. As I stood in that garage the thought that I would always be alone gushed dread through my veins. We used to joke about how Saale and me would get hitched before the two of them did. Those jokes felt cruel now. Maarja and Karl would get married and one day Saale would get married too. She would get married to someone who wasn’t me. “I’m really happy for you.”
“I want to ask her father soon. He does not like me much, but I think I can show him that I can provide for his daughter. This Bitcoin thing will be big soon James, in a couple of years me and Maarja will be rich.” Karl put the box back into its hiding place. “Promise not to tell her, yes?”
“Promise,” I said with as much candor as I could muster, but my mind was elsewhere. My mind was floating disembodied in a bright church, watching my would-be-wife get married to someone else.
“James,” Karl’s paw on my shoulder brought me back into reality, “You will be okay. I know you are worried about Saale, but you still have us. We will drink this away.” He smiled. I tried to smile back. “Let’s get this couch, shall we?”
He pulled away at the cloth that covered the couch. Enough dust flew off into the air to send us both into a coughing fit. The room danced with dirty particles. Yet from behind the veil of powder I could see it. I could see the couch.
The thing was ancient, a couch straight out of the early days of the Soviet Union. Its flowery upholstery was covered in stains that just screamed history. It was as if the piece of furniture had been used for barricades in the defense of Stalingrad and lived to talk about it. Filth filled its rumpled cloth, it stood on firm wooden legs that seemed to have survived multiple generations of being clawed at, it was as if the thing was simply biding its time until its true masters came back to retrieve it. The couch was old, but somehow in that dark garage, in that gust of earthly smoke, there was something alluring about it. It looked ratty but comfortable, even inviting. For a split second I was sure that the couch had winked at me with its cushioning. Then the dust settled and it was just a piece of furniture.
Karl grabbed one side of the couch, I grabbed the other and we started to haul the thing towards the living room. We had left the garage, but there was still tension in the air. I was still thinking about Saale getting married to someone who wasn’t me. It was still as if Karl and me were meant to have a serious discussion. Neither of us were comfortable.
“I lost my virginity on this couch,” I shared, hoping to relax the situation.
Karl grinned, accepting the levity, “Gross.”
We dragged the couch to the living room and then joined Maarja in the kitchen. Back in the day her kitchen table was the go-to place to gather before drinking and after drinking. We would sit around and shoot the shit and wait for someone to drop off the booze for the evening or the hung-over pizza for the morning. Yet as we sat there, trying to make small talk, one of the chairs was empty and it made all the difference. I couldn’t focus on anything that was being said around me, all I could think about was how Saale used to sit next to me. All I could think about were her long legs on my lap, her long fiery hair, her laughter.
“How about we sweeten the evening with a bit of moonshine?” Maarja asked, as she fished a clear bottle out of the kitchen counter, “Karl and me are going to lunch with my parents tomorrow though, so no hangovers.”
Karl cheered on the promise of alcohol, but not even drink could lift my spirits. My eyes shifted from Saale’s empty seat to the couch. All I wanted to do was lie down and fall asleep for a thousand years. “Guys, I appreciate the hospitality but I’m really tired. How about we drink tomorrow?” I said. Karl and Maarja looked concerned, this was the first time they had ever seen me refuse booze.
“Are you sure you’re okay honey? We can talk about it if you want to,” Maarja suggested. I insisted I was fine; I just needed to get some rest. That didn’t convince her, but she yielded, “Well, we’ll be in my room if you need us.” Her and Karl shuffled off to her bedroom. I laid down on the couch.
From the other room I could hear them talk. Maarja talked in concerned whispers whilst Karl spoke at full volume, it didn’t make much of a difference, even after five years of being in the country I still couldn’t understand Estonian. I could hear my name being mentioned though. They were concerned about the emotional wreck that was crashing on their couch. I dragged my friends into my mess. It was all so humiliating; I was far from home, broke and broken. I wanted to die.
‘Easy there Tiger, don’t think like that,’ a faint voice emerged from the back of my head, ‘Things might not seem great right now, but look on the bright side, at least you’re on a comfortable couch.’ The voice was right; the couch was indeed comfortable. ‘All you need is a bit of a distraction to forget about your broken heart. Some booze, some dope, maybe a bit of love and you’ll be good as new.’ It was as if the suave voice turned a switch in my mind. Suddenly the tightness in my chest eased, a burst of joy started to bubble in my abdomen. My fingers started to trace the sides of the upholstery. The voice giggled, ‘That’s the spirit Tiger, just relax, you’re fine as long as you’re here with me.’ The universe felt lighter, my feelings of dread faded away and were replaced with an electric anticipation. I needed a drink to celebrate.
I opened the door to Maarja’s bedroom. She was lounging on the mattress reading a psych textbook. Karl was watching bar graphs on the computer. “Hey guys,” I peeked in, “I feel a bit better now, how about those drinks?” They both grinned. We drank.
In the moment I didn’t give much thought to the voice in my head, my internal monologue was turned up a notch since the break-up anyway. I was used to hearing thoughts that I consciously didn’t want to consider; the silky voice that was telling me that things would be okay was a welcome distraction. I sunk into the couch and I let the night carry me away. ‘See Tiger? Isn’t it nice to be here? Isn’t life just swell on this little old couch?’ it would say. I nodded along. We drank more.
All thoughts of avoiding hangovers were let go; the liquor poured freely. At some point Maarja emerged out of her room with Fritz on her shoulder. We celebrated the tradition of our youth but the rat was sluggish, far too old to crawl around on her body. After a couple of minutes Maarja gave up on playing with the rat. She put him on the ground. Fritz simply walked around the room dragging his testacles behind him like a ball and chain. We drank more.
Karl lumbered up to his feet and went to fetch his guitar. Maarja was out having a cigarette. I was far too comfortable on the couch. Having a moment to myself I watched the rat. Fritz had spent the past couple of minutes roaming the living room and sniffing at my backpack. Yet suddenly something caught his attention, he sniffed at the air, his whiskers bouncing in curiosity. Then he looked towards the couch. The old rat sprung to his hind legs and turned towards me. It was as if his beady eyes were locked to the piece of furniture. ‘Oh Tiger, don’t think about the stupid rat. Look, here comes Karl, let’s stop thinking about stupid things and listen to him play.’
Oh and how he could play. To say that Karl lacked warmth would be an understatement, communicating with the guy often felt like having a conversation with a pile of awkwardly stacked encyclopedias, but as soon as he would bring out the guitar he would ooze personality. Somehow, with those hulking fingers of his, Karl had managed to make the strings sing the gentlest of tones. Maarja and me sang along out of key as the night went on. ‘Just like the good old days, Tiger, you’re here and you’re happy. Focus on the positives, focus on the present,’ the voice told me. I followed the advice, until I couldn’t.
It was as if a spell had been broken. As soon as I heard those opening chords, as soon as I realized what Karl was playing my stomach sank. It was that Rolling Stones song. Saale and me had danced to it once upon a time. Memories of our first night together came rushing into my mind. The Saale shaped hole in my heart throbbed with pain. I got up to splash some water on my face. Karl shifted his performance into a serenade for Maarja.
The tiles in the bathroom were freezing but I was willing to withstand the pain if it meant I could get further away from the song. I stood there, willing to wait it out, but the memories just kept on floating back. I was standing in the same bathroom I stood in the night that I met Saale. I could see traces of a sixteen-year old in my face. The music kept on building. Saale’s lily perfume filled my nostrils. I could remember the fullness of her lips before our first kiss. The images were cascading on top of each other, ripping away at my sanity, ready to plunge me into a panic attack. But then they stopped. The music stopped.
I peeked out of the door. Karl had chucked his guitar over to the side. His serenade had given way to a heavy make out session. Him and Maarja were all over each other. “Guys, I’m going to go out for a cigarette,” I announced.
The two of them looked up at me dazed and drunk. “Take the keys honey, I think we’re going to bed.”
I hoped that the dial tone would block out Maarja’s moans but it didn’t. Not only did I have to listen to a loving couple have sex, I also had to listen to world’s quietest dial tone as I was reminded that Saale did not want to talk to me. I stood out there in the freezing cold smoking one cigarette after another. It was just me, the starless sky and Maarja’s moans. Karl lasted for a quarter a pack before their bedroom quieted down. I tried calling Saale one more time and then went back inside.
By the time I stumbled to the couch I could already hear snoring coming from the bedroom. But there was another sound in the apartment, something much quieter, something I almost didn’t notice. Scratching.
Luckily I managed to prop myself up against the couch before I sat on him. As I tried to regain my balance I realized just how drunk I was. Fritz was on the couch, furiously scratching into its upholstery. He looked up at the drunken figure hovering over him for a split second and then went back to work. Those little claws scratched with the ferocity of a pup. It was as if Fritz was two years younger.
I picked him up by his scruff and tried taking him off the couch. When I lifted him off the ground the rat seemed confused for just a split second before-
‘Aiiieee’ Fritz screamed the world’s tiniest scream and then bit me in the finger. He dropped to the ground and ran beneath a nearby wardrobe. He hid beneath it and watched me.
I was too drunk and tired to care. I laid down on the couch and exhaled. ‘Welcome back Tiger, you look tired. Let me keep you company. Yes, life is hard, but if you really appreciate the moment it can be pretty enjoyable. Lie down here, let me keep you hold you. Let’s get to know each other better.’
I could smell floral perfume. I closed my eyes and drifted off to a deep sleep.

Hide and Seek

I know you are reading this. You know who you are. This game has went on for long enough. It has been almost a year. Please, let it end. I am begging you. I just want my life back.
For everyone else, I will start at the beginning.
I am sure all of you have seen those youtube or twitch streamers who like to scam the scammers by wasting their time, right? I thought it was funny so I decided I would do the same thing, except without broadcasting it to the world. It was a lot of fun to see how long I could keep these assholes tied up on the phone with me instead of your trusting grandma.
Then I heard about the “Dark Web” and how there are also people on there who like to scam people. I admit, I had never been on the dark web before, but I had heard the stories. It was the wild west where you could buy drugs and have them delivered to your door and the police couldn’t track you. You could hire a hitman to kill anybody you wanted as long as you had bitcoins to pay them with. Sadly, I also heard about the child porn rings and knew I did not want to accidentally land on one of those pages. The anonymous nature of the dark web can both a blessing and a curse.
I logged on to the dark web and was able to find a page advertising hacking services. Not real hacking, but more stuff like hacking into your significant others facebook account or email to see if they are cheating on you. Stuff a simple keylogger would accomplish but they were asking for hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars. It was clearly a scam and was exactly what I was looking for.
Before I talk to any scammer, I spoof my number and have a virtual machine set up so if they take command of my computer, they are not actually doing anything real. It is all just a charade. I never use my real name, or real telephone number.
It started off the same way these things always start off. I act interested in a service, but I am not smart enough to know how to buy and send bitcoin. I string them along, and they eventually try to walk me through it over the phone. No matter how easy they make it, I am just too dumb to figure it out. They eventually get tired of dealing with me and hang up. All I wasted was both of our time.
This call was different. After about 5 minutes of me playing dumb, they figured it out and were pissed.
“You think you’re funny?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Trying to waste our time?”
“Yea, the more time you waste on me, the less time you have to scam other people.”
“You fucked up this time. You fucked with the wrong people.”
“Why do you do this? Scam people? Does it make you feel good?”
“We aren’t the spam callers you normally talk to in Nigeria or India, Jason. You are on the Dark Web now, and you should have known better than to fuck with people on the Dark Web.”
How the hell did they know my name was Jason? I told them my name was David. What the fuck? I better get off here now.
“You are a scammer. Get a real job and stop trying to scam people.”
I ended the call.
Less than a minute later, my phone rang from my own number. I knew I shouldn’t have answered it, but I did. I knew who it was.
“Hello?”
“Jason, we don’t like it when people hang up on us.”
“Listen, I clearly messed with the wrong person. I’m sorry. I am just trying to annoy scammers who scam innocent people. That’s all. This is just a big misunderstanding. Let’s just go our separate ways. I am sorry.”
“That is not how this is going to work Jason Keys”
“How do you know my name?”
“You found hackers on the Dark Web, are you surprised we know who you are and that your address is XXXXX ?” Yes, they knew my address.
“Okay, you were able to trace my phone and get my personal information. I get it. I fucked up.”
“Where are you right now, Jason?”
“I’m at work.” I lied.
‘No, you’re not, Jason. You are in your kitchen.”
“Okay, you somehow have used my phone’s GPS to find my location. I get it. You are real hackers. I will never waste your time or anyone else’s time again. I swear.”
“Do you like games, Jason?”
“What do you mean? I have an xbox.”
“Were going to play a game.”
“No, we don’t have to do that. We can just go our own way.”
“We are going to play Hide and Seek. You know how to play Hide and Seek right Jason?”
“The kids game. Yea. Everyone knows how to play that but I don’t want to play this game. I don’t even know who you are.”
“That is what makes this game so much fun for us. We know who you are. But to you, we could be anyone, anywhere, at anytime.”
“No. I am not going to play your game.”
“You don’t seem to understand. You don’t have a choice in the matter.”
“What happens when you catch me?”
“Then you will have to hide again.”
“What if I just don’t play?”
“Bad things will happen to you.” they said. “You have 12 hours to hide. Good luck.”
They hung up. .
They are just fucking with me I thought.
I clicked on the Facebook app on my phone and a message popped up saying No Account Found. I tried my twitter and gmail account and everything was gone. Somehow they had deleted my entire online presence while they were on the phone with me.
I knew I never should have went onto the Dark Web. I should have believed all the rumors I read about that place.
Maybe this person was serious about playing their game of Hide and Seek. At worst, I thought, I should find a different place to sleep for a few days just to let this pass over. I grabbed my backpack and threw in a few pairs of clothes to last three days, a pillow, and a toothbrush. That should be enough, I thought.
I called out of work and told them I had a family emergency and would be gone for a few days. I wasn’t sure where I was going to go yet, but a full tank of gas was a start. I slid my card into the gas pump and it came back denied. That is weird, I had just gotten paid 2 days before and had plenty of money in my account. I pulled out a credit card and tried again. It was also denied.
I went to the bank to get this problem sorted out. I told the teller my card was declined but I had money in my account earlier. She took my details to pull up my account, but their system showed no account ever existed under my name. I told her that was impossible! I showed her I have a debit card with my name on it. She called a manager over and they took the card away and told me I could be charged with fraud for having a fake debit card. I tried to explain but they were certain they have never had an account under my name or social security number. Even if I had an account in the past, their system would have been able to find it under my social.
I left the bank dumbfounded. My card had worked the day before and I have had an account at that bank since I turned 18 over five years ago. There is no way even hackers could delete my accounts that fast, if it is even possible at all. It had been less than an hour.
I sat on the hood of my car and called the credit card companies, but they had no records of me on file either. The one positive thing about this entire experience is they wiped off a few grand in my credit card debt, so I guess thank you for that much.
I went back to my car and the reality of the situation came crashing down on me. They knew who I was, where I lived, and now I had no access to any money. I sat down in the car to think over my options of what to do next when I saw an envelope on the passenger seat. I opened it up and it contained $100 cash (5 twenty dollar bills) and a note.
Time is ticking. You have $100 dollars and 11 hours left. You better go hide, because soon I will start to seek.
They found me already? How were they already in my town and knew where I was and what kind of car I drove? What am I going to do now? They are already watching me and what kind of car I drive, I am not even going to be able to use my own car.
After some thinking, I drove to the bus stop and bought a ticket for a bus heading North. It would be making 6 stops between here and Chicago so I can get out of town and decide where to get off later. They can’t know where I am going to be if I don’t even know where I’ll be. The ticket was $50 dollars so that only leaves me $50. I decided I would just have to deal with it later.
The bus ride itself is a nightmare on its own, but that is a story for another time. I got on the bus and finally decided enough was enough in Indianapolis. I left a warm Atlanta for Indiana with nothing but a few changes of clothes in my backpack. Could life be much worse?
I got something to eat at a McDonalds close to the bus stop and saved what little money I had left. There wasn’t enough money to spare for a motel, no matter how shady it was. I needed to save every penny I had right now. I slept outside and froze my ass off.
I didn’t know a soul there. I just decided it would be best if I kept a low profile and tried to stay out of sight. I didn’t have any sort of electronics for them to track and I don’t have any credit cards to trace. They shouldn’t have any idea where I got off the bus at. I could be in any city between Atlanta and Chicago if they had seen what bus I got off on.
That night, I found a starbucks and decided to grab myself a coffee. I put in my order and went to the restroom to clean myself up a little. I got back just as they were calling my name telling me my drink was ready. I grabbed my coffee and the employee said someone had given him a note to give me with my coffee. My heart sank as I sat down and opened the envelope. They had found me in less than 24 hours after I traveled over 500 miles away without telling a soul.
Inside was another $100 dollars and a note.
Not a bad start, most aren’t smart enough to ditch their car and town so fast. You have $100 dollars and 24 hours to find a new hiding spot. Try a little harder next time. I like a challenge.
I sat in the starbucks exhausted and defeated. If they found me that easily then was there any way to escape them? I decided to do what I should have done when all of this started. I went to the police.
The police listened to my story and then took my ID. They asked some questions and clearly did not believe I was telling the truth. They asked if I had taken any drugs and then ran my ID. When he came back he asked me if it was a fake ID because it was not pulling any information on me. I asked him to try one more time.
Before he tried again, he asked if I might be having some mental problems or off my medicine because I sounded like I might be having an episode. I’m pretty sure he wanted to take me to the hospital for a psychiatric hold.
When he went to run my ID again, I quietly slipped out the door and escaped. I knew what they had done. I no longer exist. At least in the eyes of the law and the public. My identity was deleted. My bank accounts were gone. My credit cards were gone. My social media was gone. Everything that proved who I was is gone. Outside of those who know me, I do not exist. And if I don’t exist, they can kill me with ease.
I walked to a truck stop near the interstate and was able to hitch a ride to Chicago for $20 dollars. A random trucker seemed a lot safer than a Greyhound bus full of drug addicts and creeps like I had taken to get this far. At least I got 2 hours of sleep in a warm cab.
In Chicago, I bought a burner phone and decided it was time to call home. It was prepaid, cheap, and new. The only number I knew was my own and my mom’s so I had to call her. I called her up and she was worried and asked where I was. I told her Chicago and started to explain what had led me here, but the call dropped. I looked at my phone and it said it had no service. A few moments later I got a text message.
YOU CAN USE A PHONE. YOU CAN’T ASK FOR HELP. THE RULES ARE SIMPLE YOU HIDE. WE SEEK.
I threw the phone against the wall and it shattered into pieces. It was a brand new phone. Nobody should have been able to know or hack it so fast. I am alone. Nobody can help me. I don’t know what to do anymore. The only option I had was to play their stupid game.
Since January 16th, my life has been constantly moving from town to town, sleeping in homeless shelters or park benches. Every night I go to sleep wondering if I will wake up to a note next to my head telling me to hide again. Every day I worry a random person will hand me an envelope.
I know some of you guys must be asking yourself why I even play the game? Why don’t I just stop running? They are just playing with me. They would not actually hurt me.
I have tried that before. In Colorado, I was tired, cold, and wet when they found me. I decided enough was enough. They left me the note mocking my attempts to run away and gave me another $50 dollars. I said screw it, let them kill me. I got me a nice hotel at the Hilton and spent all the money I had on a nice steak dinner. If they decided to kill me, at least I would have a nice last meal and a warm bed on my last night.
I thought I would have been up all night worried, but I was too worn out to care. I slept like a baby. I was shocked to open my eyes the next morning and not find someone with a gun pointed at my head. I smiled and thought to myself it had all been a game. A stupid fucking game that I believed was real. I spent months on the road, homeless, cold, and hungry for nothing.
Then I looked over and saw a note on the bed with a sharp knife lying across it. Someone had been here while I was sleeping. They had broken into my room and were in the same room with me. They could have killed me and I never would have known. I almost wish they had, but they let me live. Those assholes had let me live.
We aren’t ready for the game to end yet. Keep running and hiding Jason. The next time, we will not be so nice. Now back to Hide and Seek! See you soon.
There was no money with the note. My backpack was gone. I was completely broke after spending all my money on food and a hotel. I wish they would have killed me.
I don’t know why I didn’t just stay where I was and let them kill me, but letting someone kill you and doing nothing to stop it isn’t easy.
This game of cat and mouse continued. And that is what it was. A game of cat and mouse. I realized there was no hiding from them. They always knew where I was and there was no escape. They just liked playing the game.
I don’t know what the fun of this game is for them except to watch someone suffer. I don’t know how they seem to be everywhere and know everything. It doesn’t matter how fast or far I run, they will always be the steps ahead of me.
Every person I see or talk to could be them. I constantly try to look at the faces around me to see if any of them look familiar but everyone is a stranger. They are ghost. Always close by. Always watching. Always invisible.
They find me almost as soon as I stayed in the same place for more than a night or two. Sometimes they would be nice and let me settle somewhere for a week or two, but never long enough to be comfortable. I think they just like to keep me guessing and to give me hope that they decided to stop this game.
They also always gave me exactly what I need to survive. Most of the time it was just enough money to keep me fed but still hungry with a little left over. If it was deathly cold outside I may have a little extra to afford a place inside or even a warm jacket to keep me cold but alive. If I was sick, a bag of medicine would show up. They give me just enough to live a miserable life.
I know you are reading this. And I quit. I quit your game. I’m tired of playing. You’ve taken everything from me. If you want to kill me then kill me. I would rather be dead than to keep playing your game. You know where I am. You always do. Give me my life back or kill me. I quit.
Update:
Jason was right. Our game of Hide and Seek really is a cat and mouse game. We are the cat and Jason was the mouse. Here is the thing about a cat and a mouse, a cat likes to play with the mouse, to scare a mouse, to corner a mouse, to slap the mouse with its claws. When the mouse quits playing the cats game, the mouse dies.
It looks like we have to find a new mouse since our last one decided to stop playing our game. Luckily nosleep has plenty of mice to choose from and the accounts have a comment history so we can find the perfect mouse for our next game of Hide and Seek. If you see your own number pop up on your caller ID, don’t answer. It just might be us.

Hiya folks! With this update we will finally be 100% caught up with the latest. Let’s go! Here’s your week at Parachute + partners (21 Feb - 27 Feb'20):

As mentioned 2 weeks back, Alexis announced the start of a new style of raffle from this week. 300k $PAR in the pot to be won! Bose hosted a Friday Quiz in TTR on movies with a 10k $PAR prize pool. Cap shared a unique bit of trivia from the tipbotverse: ChangeTip, a bitcoin tipbot launched 7 years back, was acquired by Airbnb in 2016 that led to its closure. A crypto pioneer that was way ahead of its time. The usual suspects continue to be on top of the Fantasy Premier Leagure (#FPL) leaderboard – LordHades, Alexis and Novelcloud as per the latest update shared by LH. Alejandro hosted a gun-mode CoD game in the Parachute War Zone followed by a free-for-all for $PAR prizes. Tavo announced another CoD Battle Royale in the Parachute War Zone to be held next week. Afful’s TTR trivia was fun as always. Charlotte hosted another trivia in TTR as well for a 10k $PAR prize pool. Victor held one in TTR with another 10k $PAR pot as well. GamerBoy’s trivia in TTR this week was based on Kindergarten Geography. Haha! Belated Birthday wishes to Victor. Two-for-Tuesdays by Gian for this week had the theme rap/reggae/reggaeton. Like last week, Sebastian set up a YouTube playlist to compile all the entries.
